ARC26064 – Lassus: Pentecostes

Following the highly acclaimed Christmas release of Orlando di Lasso’s „Officia aliquot de praecipuis festis anni,“ this recording now presents the Proper of Pentecost (polyphonic settings of the specific liturgical texts). This work was published in 1574, during the reign of Albrecht V at the Bavarian court, a time of great artistic ambition. As a supporter of Catholicism and the Counter-Reformation, he commissioned his court musician Lassus to compose numerous liturgical works. Lassus, in turn, had the opportunity, through his travels throughout Europe, to attract the finest singers and musicians to Albrecht’s court and to promote his works beyond Munich. This recording is dedicated to the liturgical texts for Pentecost, beautifully interpreted by the Lassus Chamber Choir of Dublin, conducted by Ite O’Donovan.
