After the CD ‘Mr Handel in the Pub’, the ensemble I Zefirelli moves forward into the scene of the city of Hamburg around the year 1720. “Telemann in der Taverne” moves into the next pub, again on the thin line between baroque and folk and explores the area between so-called ‘serious’ and ‘light’ music. Like Telemann himself in his journal “Der Getreue Musikmeister”, the ensemble I Zefirelli presents a kaleidoscope of folk inspired music by Telemann, like in the collection of “Polish Melodies” and some arrangements of Low-German folk tunes, deriving from song books which were widely disseminated in Hamburg and throughout northern Germany. Furthermore, some more “serious” works by Telemann are presented, like a trio sonata printed in Hamburg and a secular cantata on unfulfilled love for bass and continuo. As usual when going barhopping: One is looking forward to the next one.
