„We are daughters of our war, Reward and effect of its victory, War’s fortune brings us, We, war’s masterpiece“ – so sing the daughters of war named „Death,“ „Hunger,“ „Poverty,“ and „Injustice.“ Their dialogue comes from the „Neu erfundenen Freudenspiel genannt Friedenssieg“ („Newly Invented Play of Joy Called Peace Victory“) by Duchess Sophie Elisabeth of Brunswick-L\u00fcneburg, who first performed this incidental music in 1642 on the occasion of a preliminary peace treaty of the Peace of Westphalia. It describes the horrors of war as well as the advantages of peace\u2014words that, unfortunately, have lost none of their relevance even today. Heinrich Sch\u00fctz was full of praise for the Duchess’s music, which is why this recording appears in the Schola Sagittariana series of the ensemble La Protezione della Musica, available exclusively via streaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
