Berthold Gro\u00dfe grew up in a family of musicians, took recorder lessons from the age of five and started his first bassoon lessons at the Musikschule Sondershausen (Th\u00fcringen) when he was eleven; his teacher was Wilhelm Barthels (d. 2009), solo bassoonist of the Loh-Orchester Sondershausen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\n1988 he started his music studies at the University of Music Franz\nLiszt Weimar with Manfred Beyer, solo bassoonist of the Staatskapelle\nWeimar. He subsequently undertook further studies there with Georg\nKl\u00fctsch, former solo bassoonist of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even\nas a student, Berthold Gro\u00dfe played in numerous orchestras; he was\nsolo bassoonist of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra\nand then for a long time a member of the Kammerphilharmonie at this\nfestival. At this time he also played temporarily in the\nLoh-Orchester Sondershausen, Th\u00fcringen Philharmonie Suhl,\nStaatskapelle Weimar, Philharmonie Essen, Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal\nand G\u00fcrzenich\nOrchestra Cologne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Berthold\nGro\u00dfe is a founder member of the Mozart-Sextett Weimar and as such\nwas awarded a scholarship from the Deutscher Musikrat (German Music\nCouncil) in 1993. He is an active chamber musician with this ensemble\nand others, and is keenly interested in interpreting the seldom\nplayed soloistic repertoire for bassoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From\n1991 until its disbandment in 1997 he was solo bassoonist of the\nTh\u00fcringen Philharmonie Suhl, then from 1998 until 2000 he held the\nsame position with the Landestheater\/Landeskapelle Eisenach,\nsubsequently becoming solo bassoonist of the D\u00fcsseldorfer\nSymphoniker (Orchester der Deutschen Oper am Rhein).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nSince\n2002 he has been acting solo bassoonist of the Royal Swedish\nOrchestra (Kungliga Hovkapellet) in Stockholm. In addition he is a\nwelcome guest with many prestigious Scandinavian orchestras including\nthe Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Oslo Opera Orchestra, Gothenburg\nSymphony Orchestra, Norrk\u00f6ping Symphony Orchestra and Norrbottens\nKammarorkester in northern Sweden, one of the few orchestras in\nEurope that gives concerts north of the Arctic Circle!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
